Ed Lawson

Ed Lawson is a founder and Director of Lawson Persson & Chisholm, P.C.  His practice focuses on representing clients regarding education, business, and real estate law.  Ed has represented school districts on a wide variety of legal issues and is a member and past president of the New Hampshire Council of School Attorneys.     He has also assisted clients in the formation and organization of business entities as well as development of business succession plans.  Ed has represented businesses and individuals in a variety of real estate matters ranging from complex boundary and easement disputes to real estate transactions.  In addition to being an advocate for his clients, Ed has been selected to act as a hearing officer for hearings before school boards involving labor disputes and has provided mediation services to private parties.

Ed has been practicing law since 1974 when he graduated from Drake Law School. While in law school, Ed was the editor of the Drake Insurance Law Review, a member of the National Moot Court Team and a member of the Order of Coif, an honorary organization of law students. Before beginning his private practice, he clerked for the Iowa Supreme Court which provided him insight regarding the decision making process of judges.   Ed served with the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. where he was involved in numerous cases before the United States Courts of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court.  In 1979, he moved to New Hampshire to work in the NH Office of the Attorney General where he represented New Hampshire in complex class action lawsuits brought in conjunction with other New England states and negotiated significant settlements involving alleged violations of the consumer protection laws.  Since 1982, Ed has practiced in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.

Ed's community involvement in the past has involved assisting Boy Scouts and various youth athletic groups, but more recently he has provided coaching to adults at workshops for beginning sea kayakers.  Ed also works on various committees for the Shaker Regional School District on matters involving technology and strategic planning as well as being involved in the development and adoption of Open Source software.

Ed lives in Belmont with his wife, Gail, and Sammy, an Alaskan Malamute, with whom Gail frequently participates in agility trials and whose ribbons increasingly decorate their house.  Ed's lifelong interest in outdoor activities is now primarily centered on sea kayaking along the Maine coast.  Other hobbies are ham radio, in which he avidly seeks contacting fellow radio operators in obscure locations, photography, and flying model airplanes.
